AT CONFLUENCIA
Some info in english for our foreign friends:
Gudmundur and Anton flew out from Iceland via London and Madrid and landed in Santiago (Chile) on tuesday. Then on to Mendoza in Argentina. They were pretty tired when they arrived at the hotel in Mendoza after nearly 30 hours travelling and their luggage still in Santiago!. The luggage came to Mendoza and straigt to their hotel later that day so it was ok. Gummi was not very happy whent they waited and waited and nothing happened in the airport at Mendoza.
On wednesday they drove to Puente del Inca (2.725 m), the old Inca Spa. There they unpacked and re-packed their luggage at put some onto the mules that will carry the luggage up to Confluencia (approx. 3450 m).
On thurday they drove some 7km to the Aconcagua national park and registered for the climp. I talked to Gummi on thursday night were he and Anton sat in their tent aftur 5 hours walk from the national park gates. They were feeling fine and looking forward for the long walk up to Palza Francia and back to Confluencia on friday. The weather was ok but heavy rain when I talk to Gummi. On saturday they will walk up to Plaza de Mulas the base camp in 4370 m. The walk takes about 8-9 hours so this will actually be the first of the hard days ahead.
